Specialized Therapy for Children & Teens in the Florida Keys
Specialized Therapy for Children & Teens in the Florida Keys
You love your kid but hate their behavior. You thought parenting would be easier but you find you struggle to connect with your child. Your child is constantly misbehaving, screaming, throwing things, and hitting their siblings and friends and you don't know how to make them stop. You get tense when the phone rings because you get calls every day from their school. You find yourself negotiating with your child and using toys, food, and other prizes to bribe them to behave. You avoid going out because you're embarrassed by your child's behavior and are constantly stressed and frustrated as a parent.
At Florida Keys Therapy, we believe in the power of strong, healthy relationships. Our experienced therapists are trained in PCIT and are passionate about helping families build stronger connections. We provide a safe and supportive space where parents can learn practical skills and receive personalized guidance to address their unique concerns.
PCIT is a research-backed therapy model specifically tailored for children aged 2 to 7 years old and their caregivers. It focuses on enhancing the parent-child relationship through structured sessions and evidence-based techniques. By empowering parents with effective strategies for managing behavior and fostering positive interactions, PCIT aims to create a nurturing and supportive family environment where both parents and children can thrive.
Our clinical director, Jacqueline Ravelo, LCSW, has over 15 years of experience working with children, teens, and their families. After graduating from New York University with a Master’s in Social Work in 2013, she moved to Florida and has worked with countless families in schools, community mental health, foster care/prevention, Juvenile Justice, early childhood/Infant Mental Health, and running a program for at-promise youth in Miami-Dade County. Jackie is passionate about helping parents connect with their kids and is certified in PCIT.
Welcome! We are so excited to work with you! Before our first session together, please fill out your intake paperwork via your client portal the day before we meet so your therapist can review it. You will receive a text or email depending on your preference to remind you of your upcoming appointment. If you are meeting online, ensure you have a strong WIFI connection and a private space, so you can have session without any technical difficulties.
Your therapist will spend your first session getting to know you: what difficulties are you facing now? What do you want to get out of therapy? What are your friends and family like? Who do you rely on? What is work/school like? They will ask some questions about your social and medical history, review policies together, assess, make a safety plan, provide you some immediate resources, and explain the process to you.
FYI Your initial session can be intense! Be prepared to meet for up to 90 minutes.
Therapy is personal and everyone has different needs so it depends on the individual. People can be in therapy for a short period of time, anywhere from 3-6 months, to deal with something like a recent loss or a breakup, or it can be more long term, lasting several years. Your therapist will personalize your treatment to best fit your needs and check in with you frequently to ensure we’re making progress towards your goals.
Weekly sessions are 5o minutes each and we recommend meeting weekly for the first 6 months and/or until a significant reduction in symptoms.
Florida Keys Therapy offers in-home (Upper Keys Only) and Telehealth appointments.
Almost everything you and your therapist discuss during session remains private and is protected by HIPAA except for a few things. As a mandated reporter, your therapist is obligated to disclose if you are at risk of hurting yourself, hurting someone else, or if there is a suspicion of child abuse. Other than those exceptions, everything else is confidential.
Florida Keys Therapists are not crisis therapists and have limited availability outside of their session time. During your sessions, that 50 minutes belongs to you and your therapist will give you their undivided attention. Your therapist will provide resources following your first appointment if you need additional support. If you are in a medical or mental health emergency situation, please go to your nearest hospital emergency room, call 911, call your psychiatrist/physician, or a family member/friend.
If you need to talk to someone right away call your local Psychiatric Emergency Services or resources below:
It depends on how late your cancelation or rescheduling is. If you cancel/reschedule before 24 hours, you will not incur any fee. If you cancel after the 24 hour window, you will be charged a $50 fee. If you do not show up for session, you will be held financially responsible for the total cost of session. The detailed attendance policy and fee schedule will be in your intake paperwork.

• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork
Here's how it works:
1. We will send you a link to Sign up for Mentaya
2. Our practice will enter your sessions into the platform.
3. Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.
4. You get reimbursed by insurance!
Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies.
As per the No Surpises Act, you can request a Good Faith Estimate regarding an approximate cost of services at time of scheduling or in advance of receiving services. Therapy outcomes, unlike certain medical procedures or treatment, can be difficult to predict and are affected by various factors (ie. ongoing life challenges, your level of effort and implementation of strategies reviewed in therapy, concerns which emerge throughout treatment, etc.), however, I can provide a Good Faith Estimate to the best of my ability based on my knowledge of your individual situation. The fee you pay for services may very well be less than what is reflected in your individual Good Faith Estimate. You can learn more about the law here.
